Natural Wonders Of The World

5. Aurora Borealis

Unknown

Aurora Borealis is a seemingly magical phenomenon which occurs in the Northern Hemisphere and may be observed from multiple vantage points. Such a mystical rarity is cause for many cultural and religious stories and myths. Aurora Borealis is the result of collisions between electrically charged particles which enter the earth’s atmosphere and gas elements Oxygen and Nitrogen. Otherwise known as the Northern Lights, the variations in color which seemingly dance in the sky are caused by the different types of gases colliding, and make for a visual masterpiece which only nature may provide. Winter in Alaska, Yellowknife Canada, and Iceland are typically a few promising places to view the lights and wait to be amazed. Following the Aurora Borealis is tough, however, the next destination, located in South America, is just as magnificent to see.
